For the past few years, Apple has been the leader as far as smartphone displays were concerned, first with the introduction of the iPhone 4 with their rather impressive 326ppi display. Eventually, that similar display made its way to the latest iPad. Displays for Android phones and tablets have been getting better and better, but most were not on par with Apple's Retina displays. Now though thanks to Sharp, that's starting to change. Beginning in September, Sharp started production of the next generation of true HD displays. We're talking a 1920 x 1080 5 inch display and according to the company, has the highest pixel density in the World. At 443 ppi compared to the iPhone's 326 ppi, we're talking a pretty nice increase. The Retina display in of itself made it difficult to actually see individual pixels, though depending on how good your vision is, you can faintly distinguish them. With the work that Sharp is doing with this next generation of displays, that's going to quickly become a thing of the past. We can't wait to see what phone or phones this display will be making its way to, and even seeing it up close and personal ourselves. One upcoming phone that's said to possibly get the display is HTC's One X 5 which is also rumored to be the next Nexus device. If that's the case, Android fans will be lining up in groves with their credit cards ready. |
