Well that didn't take long. Just three months after the Nexus 7 was released in the country, it's already become the all-time best-selling Android tablet in the UK. That's quite the accomplishment and the news came from Carphone Warehouse. At the very low price of £199.99 for the 16GB model, even less for the 8GB, it's a winning combination when you take into consideration the specs. Although Google makes very little on the tablet, the idea is to drive up market share and funnel more money into the ecosystem, AKA the Play Store. So far, it's working very well with Play Store revenue up 137 percent. Although this news is great for the time being, it's worth noting that the Kindle Fire HD hasn't hit the European markets yet so that could definitely disrupt sales a bit. However, with the 32GB version coming very soon and replacing the 16GB as far as cost, that could definitely be the big deciding factor that has more opting for the Nexus 7 than the latter. Google originally hoped to sell 3 million tablets in 2012, but with the way things are looking and how well sales have been, that number has more than doubled to as much as 8 million. That's a lot of Nexuses, Nexi, or whatever the plural word is. |
