Samsung tablet rumors continue this weekend thanks to a new post from Samsung-rumor site SamMobile. The site was one of the first to break news about the Galaxy Note 8.0, which just passed through the FCC, and now claims that Samsung has yet another tablet series planned.
Samsung will supposedly be releasing the Galaxy Tab 3 series soon after the Galaxy Note 8.0 is released, which is expected to happen anytime now. The Galaxy Tab 3 series, however, will only come in one screen size at launch and that will be the standard 10.1-inch size. With its Galaxy Tab 2 series, the company released a 7-inch form factor in addition to the larger size, but with the next iteration, Samsung has decided to cut that option. SamMobile's sources say that an 8-inch Galaxy Tab 3 might be released down the line at some point, but that depends on sales of the Note 8.0.
The report goes on to claim that 4G LTE variants of the Galaxy Tab 3 and Galaxy Note 8.0 are expected to be released at some point, as well. The model numbers of those tablets are expected to be GT-P5220 and GT-N5120 respectively.
As we've learned in the past, though, Samsung likes to flood the market with all sorts of variants, and that will supposedly be the case with the Galaxy Tab 3 series too. The Sourth Korean has reportedly already begun work on the Galaxy Tab 3 Plus that carries the model number GT-P8200 and will also come in WiFi and LTE models. In addition to all of those, a tablet codenamed "Vienna" is also planned, but not much is known about it.
I find it weird that Samsung's dropping the 7-inch variant with the Galaxy Tab 3 series. The Nexus 7 and iPad mini have certainly proven that people are interested in smaller tablets. Maybe it's that Samsung knew that it couldn't compete with the Nexus 7′s pricing, but I find that hard to believe considering the company's extensive supply chain that surely could build a quality tablet for less than $250.
What do you think of Samsung supposedly getting ready to flood the market with a hefty line of tablets? Is it necessary or is the company just trying to squeeze out as much money and market share as possible? We'll probably hear more about Samsung's tablet plans at Mobile World Congress next month, so stay tuned.
